Spring In Bruges - Heritage
Take a Fresh Look

Spring is all about new beginnings and Bruges is also awakening again after its brief hibernation. So it's now time for new perspectives and to take a fresh look at the valuable heritage that is permanently available to visitors by launching the Flemish Masters in situ project. It's also time to provide culinary, musical, sustainable and sporting inspiration, and, last but not least, to complete the final sprint leading up to the opening of BRUSK exhibition hall.
Flemish Masters in situ
Bruges is rich in museums and churches containing a large number of famous works of art by equally well-known artists. Often, great masters created works for a specific place, such as a church, a monastery or a palace, for example, but over the centuries, many of those pieces have been relocated to museums around the world. Others, however, have remained in the place for which they were created. With the project Flemish Masters in situ, those works of art that are still in their original locations are now being made accessible to the general public. These gems – hidden or otherwise – can be found in the Church of Our Lady, the Museum St John's Hospital, the Adornes Estate, Bladelin Court, Church and monastery of the Discalced Carmelites and Historium.
A Master Tour connects those 6 locations, while also leading you past some other locations that are fascinating but not as well-known. This Flemish Masters in situ walk will be added to the free Visit Bruges Route App as of April. As well as providing full details of where the Masters themselves are located, it also provides you with a host of additional tips and interesting facts.
