The SEA Award, led by the Port of Dover and in its seventh year, recognises the visiting cruise ship with the highest environmental and safety standards throughout 2023. Saga’s Spirit of Discovery was the winner, with Spirit of Adventure and Seabourn Ovation also scoring highly.
A key initiative in the Port’s ambitious goals to lead a more sustainable future, the SEA Award celebrates vessels with the best recycling methods, waste segregation, carbon emissions and safety every year. This then enables the Port’s dedicated environment team to provide cruise lines with the first-rate facilities, advice and efficiency required for a more sustainable operation.
Megan Turner, Environment and Sustainability Manager at the Port of Dover said:
“Our congratulations go to Saga and Seabourn, whose vessels showed excellent waste notification scores upon arrival in port, a high percentage of recycling and great safety measures on board. We are leading the way to become the first UK port to be carbon net zero (scope 1 and 2) by 2025, and we thank our cruise lines for working alongside us on this important project, which contributes significantly to us reaching our ambitious goals.”
The SEA Award is the only award of its kind within the industry and involves every cruise ship sailing into Dover. As a trust port, the Port of Dover takes pride in setting an example to stakeholders, partners and communities across the world to together, drive a sustainable world for future generations that keeps the economy and communities growing.
